Sorry to monopolise this forum ladies and gentlemen:
Does anybody know why a Comet with no wings is sitting on the apron at Gatwick? I remember seeing it there a few years ago and it doesn’t look to have moved, though something like a towbar is attached to the nosewheel.

The comets registration is G-APMB,first flew on 21st March 1959 and was delivered to BOAC on 16th April 1959. Later flew for MEA, Malaysia-Singapore Airlines and Dan Air before retired from service in May 1974.It is used,as has been said,for training purpose it is also used for testing the air bridges.I can remember seeing it while acouple of times while taxing and i thought what is that doing there?

I was told by many people that there is a plane on a remote stand with no wings at Gatwick used to train ground handlers how to move them when they get a job!!
or for a competition to se how many fire fighters it takes to pull it!!!!!!

having a tow-bar suggests to me that is used to train ground-handlers…. not too sure though!
Another guess would be fire training or aircraft familiarisation…
