Heathrow Question

Can anyone tell me which runway is parallel to Heathrow Terminal 1? I think it was landing only!

RE: Heathrow Question

Aircraft will land on the southernmost runway in the morning whilst taking off on the other runway… sorry forgotten which one is left and right!! This does change in the afternoon to give the local residents a respite. This system is used even with aircraft having to land with a 5 knot tailwind.

RE: Heathrow Question

The runway in question is not exclusively used for landings. Heathrow operate a sytem of using one of the main parallel runways for landing and one for take-offs, they do it one way round in the morning and then swap around in the afternoon. This minimises the noise for local inhabitants living under the flights paths into and out of Heathrow.

RE: Heathrow Question

Well if its not runway 23/05 then it must be 27R/09L your thinking of.

27L/09R is closest to Terminal 4.

RE: Heathrow Question

I was over in BK Palace (:-)) in October and flew Belfast Intl -> Heathrow -> Belfast Intl on one of the last BA flights. I think it was terminal one as it was domestic. There was an amazing amount of traffic on this runway and i do remember that it is beside alot of residential house (mind you all of Heathrow is lol!)

RE: Heathrow Question

I suppose your talking about the ‘3rd’ runway.

This is runway 23, can only be used from one side and is only used for landing when there is a very strong crosswind. It was used a couple of weeks ago when we had that dodgy weather.
As far as I hear its only used about once or twice a year.

Only other info I have is the length: 6450ft (1966m), not very long!
