RE: Airports!

How about fave international airports?

My vote is JNB – if you go to the right place, the views are fantastic. Also, try LGW if you can stay at Le Meridien hotel – quite close to the action.

RE: Airports!

I call MAN. I live only 20mins away and can get up there quite often. Dont think i could have an airside pass, but the spotting areas are good as well as terminal views, from T1 anyway. I will help with this project if you still need it.

MIK€.

RE: Airports!

I know you said UK airports but I think having mbeen through some amaxing airports (particularly in the middle east where they really know how to DO airports!!!!) then I’m not overly impressed with any UK airport. We need to learn a thing or two about airports and terminals from our foreign counterparts, lets wait to see what T5 will offer.

I guess if I had to though I would probably have to say Manchester is quite high up my list

RE: Airports!

I’ll be interested in writing a report for EMA. Already got a few pics so it shouldn’t be a problem.

What do you have in mind? A general report on the airport, operators, facilities etc or one more from an enthusiasts point of view?

RE: Airports!

I live on the North Yorkshire coast, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. The area is rural, and the nearest town of any size, though with crap shops, is Scarborough.

RE: Airports!

As I only live a couple of miles from it, BHX is my personal preference. Manchester is nice, but is 79 miles too far away!

RE BA Concorde fleet: They’ll be doing x1 daily LHR-JFK for a while yet. Double daily is expected in the Summer – Barbados is being discussed, but the sub-charters such as the ones that used to fly into the UK regional airports look as though they’ve got the chop – too expensive. Considering BA’s current financial situation, this is hardly surprising. G-BOAD has just re-entered service though.

RE: Airports!

I’m not “near” any airport, pretty much stuck out on a limb where I live (literally).
To the south there is Humberside. To the north there is Teesside. To the west there is Leeds/Bradford.
But none are really near enough for me to visit regularly.

RE: Airports!

I’d do that – i started to build an enthusiasts website but lack of co-operating from institutes presented great difficulty on getting accurate infomation, but if this ended up with the airport gaining they could be persuaded to change their minds!!

RE: Airports!

Thanks for the posts. My idea is that we all take pictures and write a short report on our local airport(s). I have already got an airside access pass to my local, Belfats City and last thursday night i went down. I got some pictures of some nice planes with me sitting i the cockpit!!

Anyways, let me know if you want to do this, as there is a publisher who might like to print them!!

RE: Airports!

As my sign in name suggests Leeds/Bradford is mine – BA only stopped the charters as they were running up valuable cycles on the airframe and these routes weren’t as profitable as the likes of JFK

RE: Airports!

BA Concordes.

I think they are running as usual and there are no plans to stop. They are starting Barbados again around April I think. (Saturday weekly flight). Don’t know if they have any plans for the experience charter flights, although I suppose thats down to the travel companies (was it “David Goodwin travel” that offered the flights?) as much as BA.
It would be great to see Concorde at our regional airports again!

I want to be by the new runway at MAN when Concorde goes up! (you can get very close to the aircraft)
