A few months ago, the Dutch government was seriously considering to build an airport in the North Sea. I know it has been done in Japan and more or less in Hong Kong. But could any one tell me what the problems are, besides it cost a lot and the problem with birds.

RE: Airport in the Sea
Building an airport for holland in the norh sea would not be a good idea! The north sea is battered by high winds every year and is hit by fog alot which would not be good for getting flights in and out.
Also, you have a risk of the airport sinking,at the moment the weight of Chek Lap Kok is gradually making it sink into the sea!

RE: Airport in the Sea
A similar thing was done in Taiwan as well. It was built and tests were undertook with props, but was not succesful.

RE: Airport in the Sea
They would have problems linking it to the main land wouldn’t they as the Ducth area as very busy sea routes espically at each end of Holland!!
They could use wind turbines as its very windy and rough out there compared to the sea souronding Hong Kong!!
