Heathrow, without a doubt. CDG is very poor for viewing and photography, especially from Terminal 2.

RE: which is the best airport

My local airport Guernsey is pretty small but takes in a whole range of airlines.VLM,Crossair,British airways,British European,Gill airways,Aurigny,Channel express are the main operaters to the airport.Terminal is small and old but there are plans for a new terminal.
Jersey has a large and modern terminal which makes me feel like i am in LGW or another large modern airport!although on a winters day there is hardly anyone in the terminal and its freezing.Airlines include the same as guernsey as well as Emerauld airways,Air Bretagne,Braathens,BMI,Manx and Palmair plus numerous charters from monarch and others. If you would like to see the flights at JER then this website hs a airport web cam plus flight times.

RE: which is the best airport

Awww..

Noone has even mentioned Kastrup Copenhagen yet!

Well, as far as the airport itself goes, it’s rather large and nice, though things CAN get messy during certain periods (read: start/beginning of school holidays). The addition of the new 3rd terminal (quite nice, actually! has eased the pressure as well as giving EKCH a bit of an arcitectural side. Once Air-side, you’ll find HUGE panorama windows, so you’ll be watching the planes arrive and depart from their stands (the runways are a bit far off). As far as walking distances are concerned: Well, the furthest gates takes some 5-10 minutes to walk (another plus here, it’s gently downhill 🙂

On landside, you have to go to the notorius ‘Flyvergrillen’ – ‘The Flyers Barbie’, but that’ll secure some good shots of runway 22/04 (R & L that is) which is the main runways. You can also get some great shots from the northern side of the Airport, as a road passes it.

On a sidenote, I live som 20 miles out of the ILS path for ruway 12 (I think), so I do get the occasional B737 over my house. Only downside is that runway 12/30 is the crosswind runway, so it’s only 5% or so of the EKCH traffic that uses that airport.

RE: which is the best airport

well, this may sound pretty stupid, becuase it is not an internaitonal gateway or anything, but jax (jackosnville fl) is really nice. not a lot to do, but small, clean, good food, and an in motion pictures kiosk (inmotion picturess allows you to rent dvd, player, and headphones at a miminal cost, and if you aren’t going to a city wehre you can drop it off, they give you a jetback box so you can send it back int he mail)

RE: which is the best airport

Well (being defensive of my home airport) MAN is a very nice clean airport which is big enough to hold the passanger traffic which passes through it. It could turn into a LHR disaster if traffic keeps growing though.

Gatwick is probably the nicest airport that i have been in recently spacious with lots to do.

I have just come back from the organisational paradise of Thailand where everything went smoothly with hardly no waits. I had to connect at LHR for a flight to MAN. We had to cue to get crammed busses where we were told to “shove up the bus,” to fit even more people on. We then had to queue for bording cards and cram into a gate. It was hell. But the spectators terrace is cool though.

Cooktown in Queensland. No ATC, no staff, one small terminal hut which was immaculately clean (and the Coke machine was somehow magically full). The only inhabitant when I flew in there was a small green frog.

I don’t know how much there is to see at CDG… I’ve only transferred there recently, and there wasn’t much to see in Terminal 2B, but 2F has plenty of windows. But I don’t know what can be seen landside.

RE: which is the best airport

What’s going to happen to that Tu-154 that’s parked there? I read about it in Airliner World, after I saw it parked there this summer. It belonged to Malev, or Tarom or something like that? Had a couple of go-arounds, damaged the landing gear, now it’s just sitting there. There’s also a Caravelle parked on the tarmac. Who did that belong to?

RE: which is the best airport

Cork airport is a small yet very busy airport,it is one of the fastest growing regional airports in Europe.Airlines at Cork include,Aer Lingus,British Airways,British European,Aer Arran and charters from airlines such as Futura and Air 2000.The airport terminal has a very good duty free shop a bar which gives good views over the apron and a very good cafe.Cork was is definately one of my favourite regional airports.
A couple of years ago i went to Malaga airport,it was alright but very busy,a very long wait at the check in,but i expected this as it is a holiday airport.Good selection of shops and cafes, and if i remeber right there was quite large windows which gave a views over the apron and runway.
Although i would not say these airports were as good as gatwick or Frankfurt,i would still rate them.CDG in october,i can’t wait to see it!

RE: which is the best airport

Oh yes, and how could I forget to mention my all time favourite airport? Birmingham International. It may not be classed as a major gateway like the ones that serve the capital cities, but it has gone from good to excellent in just a few short years. The Millenium link which connects the Main Terminal in Eurohub has to be seen to be believed. Birmingham’s Eurohub terminal was the first ‘hub and spoke’ concept in Europe. The airport is getting bigger all the time and has attracted some world class airlines such as Emirates.

RE: which is the best airport

I’ve heard that the new Athens airport is good. I’ve been to a few major airports over the past few years and I’d rate AMS as well. I don’t like LHR very much, I find it can be quite intimidating, and terminals 1, 2 and 3 are not very spacious. Stansted is good though, the terminal building gives off a relaxing atmosphere and is a nice alternative to the other (overcrowded) London airports.

RE: which is the best airport

On this list, I’ve been to Schipol, Heathrow, Frankfurt, Vienna, the old Athens(Hellinikon), and the new Athens(Venizelos). Of all these I’d have to rate Schipol and the new Athens as the best. Probably because, compared to the old Athens, the new one is about a 1000% improvement. I’ve not been to Munich, but from the pictures, I could see where one would say they resemble one another. I suppose it helps that the Germans built and are currently running the new Athens airport. As far as small airports go, who’s flown out of Thessaloniki airport? Very modern, very nice, and not much walking. As far the U.S. goes, LAX has some good viewing spots.

RE: which is the best airport

Palma de Mallorca is a nightmare for walking distances and apparently so is Dubai. On the subject of small regional airports East Midlands isn’t that bad, it just needs some work on it, especially on the baggage reclaim.
I tend to share the same views that large airports like Heathrow are too overcrowded and a bit of a nightmare.

RE: which is the best airport

ZRH is a good airport but compared to most international airports is needs modernising. It looks like it is stuck in a 60’s time warp. Birmingham is a good one although it takes a long time to walk from the gate to the arrivals hall. My favourite is london City, small compact and easy (especially with a hamgover ahahahahaha)

RE: which is the best airport

I vote for the small ones. I hate long checking procedures, too much walking and waiting for take off and landings, fingers to planes. Madrid is a chaos in terms of distances. I don´t enjoy big Frankfurt or Heathrow…..I would vote for London City, Bilbao, Liverpool, Sofia is quite nice, even Stuttgart. I love getting with not much time an board in 15 minutes.
