Captain's seat

Are those seats in the airliner cockpit the best and most comfortable seats in the world? After all, pilots have to sit long times.

RE: Captain’s seat

I sit in the jump seaton the Avro RJ 100/85and it is quite comfortable but not much room if you have long legs. 🙂

RE: Captain’s seat

Ohhh yes…they are very comfortable. I sat on the captains seat of a B767 of SAS and it was very comfy. The jump seat of the 767 is also very good. The captains need these kind of seats for long hour flights.

RE: Captain’s seat

Hey it’s not just pilots who have to sit for long periods of time spare a thought for the poor old Truckie he hasn’t got an autopilot. Maybe if he’s lucky cruise control. 😀

RE: Captain’s seat

Hi! No the seat to which you refer really is not too comfortable..but one does have plenty of adjustment afor obvious reasons..The firmness of the material is deliberate especially when you are strapped in tightly…Cheers David(an old timer now!)..

RE: Captain’s seat

Flight Crew Seats, by neccessity must offer a degree of comfort, and support to the body for long periods of time. They must also offer strength and rigidity and must deform to absorb impact shock in the event of a crash occuring. They are designed to be adjustable over a wide range of parameters, however, they musnt be TOO comfortable – we dont want the boys at the front nodding off do we?

RE: Captain’s seat

I have been in the cockpit of all the followng:-
BA 747-400
Thai 747-400
Airtours 757-200
I have to agree the seats are extremally comphy. BUT the cockpit is very drafty and the cockpit crew do not get the inflight entertainment, although they will be kept buisy so that wont matter too much.

RE: Captain’s seat

Hi!! You bet those seats are comfortable. Being paid a salary of US$100,000.- or more, gives you plenty of comfort.

RE: Captain’s seat

I once sat in the jump seat on an Air New Zealand 747-400, it was much better than the economy pile I had been alocated to sit in for 10 1/2 hours!!
