Gates is head hunting looking to show everyone (in the military and the administration) he’s a tough guy.
After the sleeping incident…or maybe before…the commander was a marked man.
The two truck wrecks (minor, IMHO since they were’nt hauling any nuclear material..or even sensitive stuff) were just excuses to sack (no pun intended) the guy.
