I’ve had the most fun with aeroplanes at Breighton, or away from base with the Breighton crowd, and often that has included the appearance of Taff screaming past in the Mew Gull and giving chase to some other, equally delightful, aircraft. Oddest sight was the Mew Gull sharing ramp space with a Saab Draken at Reno! Is the Tipsy Trainer yours? Beautiful machine, we occasionally get a Belfair pay us a visit up here but haven’t seen a Trainer.

The Glasair will certainly be impressive, but one of the highlights of my limited flying career is seeing Taff in ‘XF hurtle by my wingtip on the way into Goodwood a couple of years ago!

I see that Steve Nujaim has postponed his long planed attemt due to fuel supply problems!
Interestingly I believe that Steve is now planning to go in September/October as well.

Taff is much more than G-AEXF’s pilot. He is also the aeroplane’s owner!

We plan to begin flight testing the Glasair next month which should be fun.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I thought some of you might be interested to know that Taff Smith is hoping to set a new record for solo flight to the Cape and back this September/October. Interesting for many I guess because he’s G-AEXF’s current display pilot, that’s ‘Alex Henshaw’s Mew Gull’ for those who don’t ‘do’ numbers! Taff has a little website at http://www.thecaperun.co.uk/ for those wishing to know more.

Taff Smith’s Cape Record assault

The latest news is that Chalkie has done it. He’s back in Capetown having beaten Henshaw’s record.
All credit to Stoddart, but the fact that it has taken 70 years of development to do it, still says a lot about the sheer scale of Henshaw’s achievement back in 1939!
I agree and Henshaw stayed 27 hours in Cape Town. I wonder it the flying time of Alex Henshaw was better ?
