What are the rules on Mode C transponders? For example does a light aircraft require a transponder to transit the Glasgow ATZ and where are the rules written down.

You must have a working transponder ( but doesn’t have to be Mode C) for class A airspace i.e. flying into RAF Northolt or Jersey etc.

There are currently no compulsory transponder zones in the UK, but you will be less likely to be granted a transit if you can’t squawk Mode C.
Equally having one doesn’t guarantee you a transit either.
