Steam Train out of Southend

I found a tenuous link to aviation regarding this railway line, thanks to a cousin of mine who grew up in Laindon.

Quote “….The old L.M.S. Steam Train, what memories come flooding back – travelling up to London and looking out of the window and seeing a German Bomber flying overhead. Looking in the mirror when arriving home to see black sooty streaks on ones face. The train pulling into the station about 11.00 p.m on a foggy night, after the engine ran out of steam and we waited for another Engine to come from Stratford to push us up the rear….”

These were taken near Hadleigh Castle, on the Southend to Fenchurch St. Line. On it way to Winchester for the day.
It’s brought back by a diesel.

Popped over to a local station on the ECML last Saturday morning to take a short vid of 46233 Duchess of Sutherland fronting a charter to York. Being still half asleep I made the lazy man’s error of leaving my DSLR on autofocus. The result was a blurry mess of moving metal and streaming smoke but with some wonderful bokeh.
I decided against putting said vid on YouTube. So think before you press that shutter.

Very nice Alan! Who isn’t stirred by old steam and for some of us it was steam which pulled the carriages we travelled in as youngsters! SHope you get some good pictures to share with us.
