Sussex strip misfortunes

Such is the power of the jungle telegraph that last night I received a telephone call from Nitra in Slovakia, where friends on a mini European tour had just landed, telling me of an accident which befell a long standing Shoreham resident on Saturday.

It seems that the Southern Strut Flying Group’s trusty servant of 23 years, Cessna F150J G-AWRK, struck a building with a wing and crashed at Deanland, fortunately with the pilot escaping unharmed. The aircraft may not be so lucky though and is a likely write off and I gather plans are already in hand to hire another 150/152 at least as a temporary replacement.

Meanwhile news reaches me from the north of the county that the Slinfold strip at Wellcross Grange, which has been operational for over 50 years and has been on the market for the past 3 and a half years, has finally been sold with vacant possession to a wealthy Arab. I hope this does not mean it is lost forever, as the upshot has been that several resident aircraft have been given notice to quit and some have already dispersed to other local strips.
