I am sure very few people here have been following my audio documentary series “Courage And Valour: New Zealanders in the Italian Campaign of WWII” – which you can download free from http://www.newzealandersatwar.com – however this is the story of men and women of New Zealand who fought alongside and with the British forces and other Allies in the struggle to eradicate the Nazi German and Fascist Italian forces in Italy from 1943 – 1945. This audio podcast is a collection of first hand memories, stories and anecdotes told by the kiwi veterans who were there themselves.
Anyway, I thought that some here have probably got an interest in the men of the front line Infantry, so you will probably find the latest episode very interesting. “Episode 10 – Life In The Poor Bloody Infantry” is a candid and revealing look into the lives of infantry soldiers of the 2nd NZ Division, both in and out of the battle lines. Almost two and a half hours of recordings of veterans talking about their lives as soldiers on the edge of hell in Italy.
Please check it out. You can stream it or download it from this page (or get it through iTunes). And if you do have a listen to this and/or other episodes in the series, I’d really like to hear your feedback. This series has been a labour of love and a true vocation for me to track down the chaps, interview them, and piece their stories into concise and fascinating narratives, in an attempt to ensure their stories are not lost, and that younger people particularly get a chance to hear their stories and learn about what these men and women did for our freedom, and Italy’s freedom, back in WWII.
Here’s the link to the latest episode anyway:
