Wasn’t sure where to post this as I never stray into modern and GD says non aviation but here I am.
Britain’s latest attempt to improve on its past low flying record is receiving support from politicians so is now probably doomed to failure.:D
I wish them all the best, succeed or fail, but I bet the politicians will drop it like a hot potato if it fails in any way.
The concept seems to be to disguise a Typhoon as a car by hanging some wheels on it and then getting a pilot to try and keep it on the ground.

Hi. Thanks for the update, although It’s a shame about Guy and his accident, No doubt like “Burt Munroe” , he won’t ever settle until he has at least had a go at the record.
As perhaps most of us here don’t take MCN, would you keep us up to speed, (Pardon the pun) on what develops.
Thanks.

Yes, It would be nice to see a Brit motorcycle, ridden BY a Brit take up the cudgel again and claim the record.

Guy Martin’s out to do exactly that….

I think it’s been delayed slightly through injury… but still very much on.

Yes a very good film, seen it a couple of times. Could it happen again ? It would be nice to think so,
but I doubt it would be allowed.Good luck to them at this latest attempt . Although I doubt luck comes into it.

[QUOTE=Lincoln 7;2260149]I particularly liked the bit where “Burt” failed the inspection of his bike, then shaved the tread off his tyres and then used black shoe polish to make them look like new.
And apparently it’s totally true. Among other things, part of the suspension was made from an old gate… he carved his own con rods out of old tractor axles – and made the cylinder barrels out of old gas pipe that was being dug up and replaced – reasoning that after fifty odd years underground it’d be nicely seasoned. Then at the age of 68 he set a speed record that still stands today. Truly incredible man.

Bit of a thread drift, but still on the same subject, one of the best films I have ever seen, re land speed records, is Sir. A. Hopkins, in the “Fastest Indian”. If you get the chance to watch it, you won’t be disappointed.

What’s the criteria for a land speed record?
Can’t they just bolt it to rails. Be a lot safer.

The old saying, “Where there is a will, there is a way”
How many folks are there in the world today like “Burt” I wonder, who paid for just about everything out of his own pocket, without sponsers. He had a dream, and made it come true.

Worth mentioning that the wingless wonder F104A – converted into a “car” – is making runs at present too, aiming among other things to set a new woman’s LSR of 600 MPH+

Judging by the lack of updates though, I suspect it isn’t going too well…
..and +1 on “The World’s Fastest Indian”. Burt Munro has to be one of my all-time heroes….!

Indeed Linc, I seem to recall exchanges on here in another thread a year or more ago.

Bloodhound had better watch it’s 6 because the “Aussie Invader” is neck and neck at present, I have been following both with avid interest. Both want to break the 1.000 MPH barrier, it’s all going to happen next year, all being well.
Bloodhounds next plan is to do a 200mph “Run” at Newquay, just to see how things are running.

Are those planes then?:DThe point is he can fly fast jets at low level. Presumably it comes with an MB safety device rated at 0/1000.

So it is a Typhoon with 4 wheels and rocket assist being kept on the ground, hopefully. 😀
