Toy Town London

Taken late afternoon, early evening from floors 69 and 72 of the Shard at London Bridge Station with a bit of ‘Faux’ Tilt-Shift effect applied, just for something different.

John, if the cyclists in London are anything like the ones in Oxford I can understand drivers treating them with caution. In Oxford they have a habit of turning right without any regard for the faster traffic approaching from behind, don’t believe traffic law applies to them. The majority of them also don’t use lights at nigh despite insisting on wearing dark clothing.

Brian, Thanks for the info re camera and lense. I use Canon, and yesterday, I was reading a review regarding thier new “Tilt and shift” Lense At the price, you would have to use it regularly, to justify the cost.
Sorry, but whenever I hear the name BRIAN, it makes me think of, “THE LIFE OF BRIAN” and then It gets me in stitches when I think of “BIGGUS DICKUS” and the other things they said. Just makes my day thinking about it…:D

Can you explain ’tilt-shift’ please?

Tilt-shift lenses are used mainly by architect photographers to correct converging verticals, very expensive bit of kit, Brian’s used a software program to good effect for those pics.

Was there yesterday. Hadn’t been for 25 years. Impressions ? Cheapest I saw: Β£9 for one hour of car parking. Souvenir and tat shops everywhere as are snack bars and cafes. Young trees have been planted on pavements where there had been none.

Despite the Congestion Charge, traffic is as heavy, if not heavier that it was, when I was last there. Expensive looking apartment blocks, offices, and new, currently building, everywhere you look. I drove thru’ Chelsea and part of Battersea, places that I knew well and got lost – couldn’t get onto Vauxhall Bridge.

Many more cyclists and all treated with some caution by drivers. From central London it took just over an hour to cross the Hammersmith flyover. Most areas looked reasonably clean and free from litter. Police in cars seemed to be in most places.

I wouldn’t live there at any price. Heaven alone knows what draws people there in the first instance.

Some of the best tilt-shift I’ve ever seen. I especially like shots 1, 3, 4 and 8. The lighting in the first shot makes it look like a small model lit from a low angle.

I seem to remember there was an old saying, “The man who is tired of London, is tired of life” Must pt it on my “Bucket List.

Alternatively, in the words of a wise Norfolk man:

“A bit like London… which I spell S-H-I-T-H-O-L-E ****hole” – Alan Partridge

It must be like four hours since I was there, I work in Canary Wharf, the big pointy building. I must take my camera in.

Technically I suppose I’m still there, my address is London but it’s about five miles or so from central

Never mind all the techno jargon which I don’t understand anyway. I’ll just say it looks very effective and I like your post.

Tilt-Shift

To add good miniature effect to your photographs, shoot subjects from a high angle (especially from the air). It creates the illusion of looking down at a miniature model. A camera equipped with a tilt-shift lens, which simulates a shallow depth of field, is essentially all you need to start.

……..or you can use a piece of Tilt-Shift software and fake it. πŸ˜€
