Those who have followed the misfortunes of Shoreham Airport owners Erinaceous Group Plc in the financial press might be interested to know that the landing fee for a visiting light single is going up again to £18.00 from 1st January 2008.
Not only that but the fee for a touch and go or a go around is £8.50.
Makes you wonder what counts as a go around. I can think of at least 4 possible scenarios – a genuine prectice approach and overshoot, a misjudged approach which is thrown away, a beat up and an instruction from the Tower to facilitate traffic separation (they wouldn’t would they….).
Being a bit out of touch having not flown much this year, I would be interested to know if other airfields are now charging for such movements.
What does the team think? Answers on a postcard please.

I’m personally of the opinion that if you have to go around for any safety reason, including if ATC have mucked up their timings and cleared someone to depart, then you should not get charged for that approach. I would be concerned if the pilot’s final check included the cost of a go-around and his/her decision-making mindset was affected so.
However if your declared intention is for a low approach and go-around, say for training, then fair enough charge me. I nay not land off the approaches anyway if I’m practising at an away field.
