This sad news dosen’t seem to have made the Forum before, but I’m sure that there are many like me who benefited from Cliff’s expertise, knowledge and friendly advice. He’ll be sadly missed.
Cliff’s close friend and fellow PFA Chiltern Strut stalwart Barry Plumb said it all:
Friends,
I am very sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I must with great sadness report that Cliff Piper has died.
Cliff was at a ceremony on Tuesday evening at the Royal Aero Club to receive a Silver Medal award. This had been awarded to Cliff for his tireless works on behalf of PFA, and in particular recognition of his achievements in setting up the PFA Pilot Coaching Scheme, and the NPPL.
After the ceremony Cliff returned home, and was taken ill early the following morning. He died on Wednesday morning.
I am sure that all Chiltern Strut members will be greatly saddened at his passing, but please remember him for his cheerfulness, kindness, eloquence and sense of humour. Cliff was a true friend.
God bless you Cliff.
I understand that Cliff’s funeral will take place this Friday 3rd May when we’ll all no doubt raise a glass in his memory.
The attached picture by Stuart MacConnacher is how we’ll remember him.
Blue skies Cliff.
