Interesting too that Russian state-controlled media has virtually ignored the currency crisis and the effect on the economy; I guess old habits die hard.

It may also explain how popular President Putin is despite the state of the economy; Russia sees itself as surrounded by ‘enemies’ and so looks towards the past, to a time when it had more power and influence.

I think they still think the way they were taught in the Soviet era – if you don’t publicise it, it doesn’t exist.
