It has been announced in the local media today that Nottingham (Tollerton) Airfield has been put on the market by owners Nottingham City Council. It has been stated that twenty bidders are interested in the site which is up for sale with an estimated value of £5 million with the Council putting in clawback provisions if housing was allowed on the site. The Borough Council, Rushcliffe, will need to find space for 13,000 homes in this area.
It was stated in the Nottingham Evening Post that the current airfield operators, Truman Aviation, have a 30 year lease which expires in 2013 and the newspaper said they are interested in buying. If developed for housing the site is estimated to be worth £100 million.
The sale will be by closed bids by the end of October with contracts to be exchanged on November 1st!!!!.
A very sad and worrying day.

Looking forward to seeing you on a x-country in to Tollerton, sorry Nottingham City Airport, sometime soon.
My contract means that I am splitting my time between London and Norwich, once I am settled in and Xmas is over, I should have the time to get cracking, so be prepared for an unusual arrival in early spring! 😮

Hi Wessex Boy
Hows the ppl progressing?
Yes the guys in the hangar manufactured the anti-glare exhausts for the Hurricane. The BBMF pilot said they reduced the noise significantly. I think he meant in the cockpit, because they didn’t do much for the noise in the hangar whilst they were being made!
I can imagine that things can get a bit noisy in there!
My PPL has stalled for the moment, my business took a little bit longer than anticipated to start giving me reasonable cash-flow, but I have just started a contract that will give me some cash in the bank at the end of December, so once I have covered school fees and mortgage, I am allowed to get airborne 😀 (some people have their priorities all wrong!)

So apart from East Mids (busy) and Hucknall (part-time and generally RR bods), is Derby and Gamston the next nearest GA fields able to train pilots?
