No fast jets, no Red Arrows, no multiple flypasts.
Brilliant!
Just lots of friendly faces, dozens of aeroplanes of all shapes and sizes, strawberries and cream for just £1.50 – and a great atmosphere!
Congratulations to all at Brimpton for a wonderful day – here’s to the next one in September.
……And in contrast to Kemble where I understand the Reds threw in the towel after their THIRD TRA infringement, Brimpton did it differently……
Visiting aircraft calls in for joining instructions while the Piston Provost is in the middle of a spirited display………
Response of airfield owner Alan House, “A couple of orbits to the North please G-xxxx then we’ll hold the next display till after you’ve landed” – Priceless!

hi there, sorry to butt in to your forum but i stumbled upon this post durring an ‘ up all night can’t sleep’ random net surf.
and it pleased me somewhat immensely to hear that mr Fairey is still an active pilot,
bringing back memorys of my youth happily watching him fly his various aircraft over our village on lazy summer afternoons .
the one that springs vividly to mind is watching an aircraft tumbling out of a clear blue sky over the golden wheat feild at the back of our house,
i asked my dad what type of plane it was , he replied- ‘ thats john Fairey in his spitfire’ i’m sure it was painted yellow , and sound of the engine was truely ammazeing ,
later, when i started working , i had the opportunity to look into the workshops where a small aircraft was under construction, i think it must have been the flycatcher.
plz forgive me, i know little of aviation , but thanx for resurecting these happy memorys.
gordon.

That Cessna has been a hangar queen for a fair few years now, six or seven if not more.
Double that.

I have a sneeking suspicion that it will be exported because of problems registering it on the UK register. It’s an N-reg right now.

Anyone know what the radial engined cabin type is inside the hangar? Looks like a Cessna Airmaster to me….

Sadly didn’t get any pictures of the models, but they were certainly beautifully flown, in particular the two Spitfires flown in formation at scale (slow) speeds, plus an amazing jet – it seemed a little more sophisticated than the jetex models of yore!
Sympathies to the gentleman who managed a tree landing – but I can quite understand the predicament, they looked ruddy big from the Luton too!
One or two piccies attached, of course I concentrated on the older and sillier elements of the line-up!
PS. Check out the nutter on the hangar roof! 😀

Did you get any pics? The flying Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was very amusing. The rather long ladder up the tree to rescue a distraught model aircraft was funny from a distance, though probably not for those involved. I hope the recovery was successful.
I understand that John Fairey was displaying one of the Piston Provosts. Would you happen to know if that is THE John Fairey of F.D.2 fame?

Not sure that I would attempt to equate Brimpton with Kemble, but I was there and I too would give it a big thumbs up.
I also loved the little tour I got around the Piston Provost. Humbling to see how much of it is exactly the same as the JP5!
