'Jim Rockford' has left us

So long to James Garner, an actor who so effortlessly dominated any scene in which he appeared.

Notable here for his appearance in The Great Escape.

Relevant too for being shot in the bum by a ‘friendly’ US aircraft while in combat in Korea.

On BBC2 this evening in Grand Prix.

He’s left quite a legacy of films for us to enjoy.

. And a fine record in the Korean War for which he was awarded a Purple Heart.

Two I believe. One caused by the enemy.

Amazing that this Forum is ahead of IMDB in updating Jim’s biography!

Was updated when I looked at around 17.00.

Equally at home in comedy or drama a very accomplished film and TV actor whose best roles will always be a deserved legacy. Rockford Files was one if my favourite series of the time. And a fine record in the Korean War for which he was awarded a Purple Heart.

Sad day for jim, one of the best in whatever role he played. He will be sadly missed.
Lets hope they show some of his films on TV over the coming weeks, which would be a fitting tribute.
R.I.P.

Jim.

My favorites: Grand Prix, the cynical war drama The Americanization of Emily and a TV film Decoration Day about ageing WWII veteran friends in a small town.
Always the anti-hero…his characterization in the TV series Maverick in the late 50s neatly preceded the “anti decade” of the 60s…so he hit the ground running and seemed custom made for that decade..

RIP.
