Yesterday afternoon Eric Garner broke up a fight between three men in a street in New York.
The men had fled by the time the police arrived, but since Garner had a history of selling untaxed cigarettes they questioned him instead, later telling his wife they had witnessed him selling them. Asthmatic, diabetic and weighing 400lb, they put Garner in a chokehold and wrestled him to the ground, slamming his head against the pavement; unsurprisingly, they were shortly panicking after his cries about not being able to breathe petered out and medics were called.
Using a chokehold is not permitted by New York police: they might have tried to deny its use but, unfortunately for them, the incident was caught on video. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/staten-island-man-dies-puts-choke-hold-article-1.1871486?utm (Read the comments at the end – these are people who read newspapers/websites, rather than gang members who would happily slag the police off for the slightest reason.)
Chilling news for the New York tourist people…

Back on message…
A medical examiner has ruled that a white police officer’s “chokehold” caused the death of a black New Yorker.
Spokeswoman Julie Bolcer said Eric Garner’s death last month, which caused an outcry, had been ruled a homicide…
The cop concerned is suspended, as are a few medics; might cool the tempers of both the police and New Yorkers for a short while.

Hi Geoff, When I was a Copper, I went on several driving courses from HGVs M/Cycles, and even Tractors. All of which were removed from my D/L when I reached 70, however, the Law is an Ass, as I can still drive a Landrover, and caravan, the length of which is not stipulated on my D/L, The Caravan therefor could be 100 feet long?.I was qualified to tow a 39 feet long, mobile Incident room behind a Landrover.

HI All,
Snafu,Lincoln7 and Richard Grey,
The owner who was nicked actually left his helmet behind when he toddled off with his passenger. My apologies for that vital piece of missing information , Jim thanks for the info I just couldn’t work out why if the scooter had no Insurance or Tax why it was legal for the copper to ride it, but many thanks all the same for the info.

Sorry, the cop rides it WITHOUT A HELMET? That was my point.
Maybe they called for a M/cycle cop.
In my area of Norfolk the police have a contract or agreement with a large recovery firm, so would have thought the same applied to the rest of the country. So the problem of getting the scooter recovered would not arise. They would just inform the recovery company to recover the scooter. The recovery company would then invoice the owner for the recovery.

Snaff, Geoff stated the passenger had no helmet, OFFENCE Rider/No VEL or Insurance meaning he could not be allowed to ride his machine home, So the Copper could ride it to the Pound, after booking the rider and pillion passenger.

for Coppers being fat…
Nope, not me complaining about him being fat. He is tall and slim-ish. It just amused me that one day he is ramming apple pie into his mouth, the next he is cycling along complaining about being put on a diet.

As for Coppers being fat, when I was on the job, we had to have an annual check up, BMI etc, you get the picture, if you were overweight, you were given 3 months to sort yourself out, if you didn’t, then you were out.
These days, living next door to my local nick, where all day long there has been 8 police vehicles that havn’t moved an inch, just about all of them, including PCSOs are IMHO fat and overweight. How the hell can they chase anyone of they are so fat they are unable to perform their duties?.SLIM em or BIN em.

But no helmet…? Surely that would be breaking the law.
Watched one of our local ‘beat’ coppers stuffing his face during a pie (apple) eating contest yesterday; he came second to a local padre (denomination unknown) who smeared said pie all round his face. Went out for a ‘jog’ this morning (more of a fast walk quickly descending to a saunter, don’t tell the wife) and saw him and a colleague cycling down the road with him complaining to his buddy ‘she’ (wife, girlfriend?) was forcing him on a diet…

The short answer to that Geoff is YES. If, when I was double crewed, frinstance we arrested anyone driving, ie a man who had blown over the limit, he/she would be handcuffed, placed in the Police car, and the “Free” Copper would drive the defendants vehicle back to the nick, The same would apply to a vehicle involved in an accident where the driver was taken to Hospital, but their car was still driveable, and had to be driven off the road, to clear a passageway for traffic to pass the scene.

Hi All,
Coppers over here look for the easy option all the time, but I must add that not all are Wa’k’rs. Anyway my wife is into all those cop reality shows and I often question why they are doing a certain thing ? as if the average person did the same it would be – Arrested, down the nick no questions asked, just one case here anybody know the answer please ? A lad was stopped on a scooter giving his mate a lift – Passenger No Helmet, No Tax, No Insurance – Both got done basically anyway they cannot get a recovery vehicle to recover scooter, Are the police insured when on duty to then ride an untaxed/uninsured vehicle to the recovery compound ?

Slag the Police off in New York?, what about the ones here, just over a week ago, I had to dial 999 and call an Ambulance for myself, I won’t go into detail suffice it to say, one was here within 5 minutes together with a Dr in a Paramedic car. As this was about 04.45, the street was empty, and no traffic was on the road. Anyway, as I lay in the Ambulance, which had it’s blue lights flashing, this Wan** of a Copper appeared, and told the Ambulance crew they were causing an obstruction in the M.T. road. One of the pair of the Ambulance crew, in no short terms told this idiot to “F” Off, he told them again to move it and the female crew member told him to “F OFF, Or I will F YOU off”.
He left the scene.
Nuff said, only if I saw one on fire, I wouldn’t P**s on him, but pour petrol on him.
What a sad world we live in.

He should be charged with murder, if it is a forbidden hold and he killed him, plain and simple.
