Finally managed to go up to see the CFI at Conington yesterday (Gavin Forrest) to discuss what I needed to do to get re-validated.
We searched LASORS and found that 5 years seems to be the only cut-off, so with a 17 year gap I just need to pass a GFT and an Oral exam, and that’s it!
Aside from the legal requirements, there is a safety issue, so we decided it would be best for me to re-take the Air Law exam and to re-familiarise myself with Nav & Met. I have purchased an Air Law text book, if anyone has good suggestions for Nav & Met text books, that would be great.
Next step is the Medical and an initial check ride to see how much I have forgotten/remembered, and then we can plan the work up to the GFT.
Oh and I must get my address updated on my Licence, it is still showing my Parent’s previous house! Any idea of the address I need to send it off to? The CAA website seems impenetrable on simple things like that.

I used the Thom series about twenty years back. There are tests at the end of each chapter which you can use to highlight the areas where your knowledge is a bit thin. Plenty on e-bay if you need them.
Modern studes seem to swear by the PPL Confuser, a book full of all the multiple choice questions. Opinion seems to be that it isn’t the best idea to use this exclusively as you don’t gain the knowledge of the subject, but in your case it might be enough to act as a refresher.
Good luck.

You could call them on 01293 567171 if you want, and they will advise of any delays associated with processing requests of this sort. My spies tell me that it is currently around 2 weeks.
