Split from the thread on Leicester, Trinny suggested a trip to Elvington home to the Yorkshire Air Museum.
I also suggest an arbitary one month hence. This is the day the clocks go forward and YAM begin their Summer opening hours 1000-1730. The longer day should also help all daylight flies getting back safely, rather than being stuck up North! 😉
Failing that Plan B is Wolverhampton.
Can I have a show of hands?

dodrums: Thanks for the kind offer. You never know when I might just come by. Nothing could put me off going to Cumbernauld.
Blue Robin: Elvington 25 March – did you go?

Janie, admit it. It’s the Cumbernauld Centre (worst building) that put you off 🙂
Offer of tea and buns open for whenever you pass through

dodrums: I think we’ll take a raincheck on the visit. My comfort breaks (the FAA call it “physiological needs”) are going to make this trip too awkward.
Thanks for the offer of tea and buns though.

Janie — that’d be no problem in a Modern Aeroplane, but you know very well that the Emeraude doesn’t do straight lines 🙂

Janie, I admire your optimism. 10 hours flyable weather in one day at this time of the year? Not too likely I fear.
By: Chipmunk Carol - 20th March 2006 at 09:01
Met24: If you were leaving from Lt Gransden, it would be 265.1. You could easily do that in under 5 hours if you were flying crow-style with no breaks.
There is approx 12 hours of daylight right now, that gives you two hours (if you are going to do a 10hr return trip) for refuelling and comfort breaks, non-crow flying, tea AND buns. That should be plenty of time.

Cumbernauld … I think I’d need to set off the day before, at the latest!
By: dodrums - 19th March 2006 at 21:17
Janie, tea coming up.
At the airport its the usual mix of spam cans and airfix kits*, a few angry palm trees and a smattering of PFA types. Quite a few visitors, so you can never tell who is passing through.
In Cumbernauld town itself, you can see Britains worst building – you’ve been warned 😮
Foodwise, the cafe at the field is ok, but can recommend the Castlecary Hotel about 2km down the road.

Would you like tea or coffee? might even be some buns.
One black tea and a couple of buns sounds lovely, Ken.
What’s worth seeing at Cumbernauld International then – apart from your little perforations?
By: dodrums - 18th March 2006 at 23:21
Neal, slowly. First solo was in Feb, haven’t had the chance to fly since! 🙁

If you’re heading for Cumbernauld I’ll put the kettle on. Would you like tea or coffee? might even be some buns.

That sounds like a good enough excuse to me. Looking forward to it.

I’d like to keep my endurance Chipmunk flying honed for this summer’s repeat epic journey. Cumbernauld seems like a continent away, so it makes for a good target.

Trinny: How do you fancy Cumbernauld on 1st April, before midday?
Sounds good to me. What’s the occasion?
By: ozplane - 18th March 2006 at 09:49
Well it came from Little Gransden and had the yellow spinner like the one in your avatar. (Is that the right name, I don’t do techie stuff.)?
By: Chipmunk Carol - 18th March 2006 at 08:48
So who nicked “your” Chipmunk today Janie?
Are you sure it was the one I fly?
