Bletchley Park Volunteers 'Dismissed'

It would seem that their knowledge and years of volunteer service are no longer required.

The truth probably lies, encoded, somewhere between the reports….

I presume it was because it was inaccurate and incomplete.

You have to wonder why the BBC pulled their story.
Was it because of pressure from BP ?

Alan,
The two links show a different angle to the story, must say the spokesman for BP came across badly in the BBC report, his attitude came across rather more as like it or lump it, the real message unclear at best.

Not confusing at all just yet another example of sloppy reporting fed by one or two disgruntled individuals and not properly followed up, hence the lack of any corroboration.
It was good to read those two links.
And today we are celebrating the 90th birthday of a member of our family who was just one of the thousands of servicewomen who spent part of their war years “hut bound”!

This statement makes things even more confusing. Maybe why the BBC pulled their story ?

Not heard anything of this and I only live about 10mins drive from Bletchley Park. Sad news that they are dropping volunteers though, they are a dedicated bunch.

As far as I can recall, TNMOC is a separate from BP – nothing to do with the Trust. You pay a separate fee to visit it.

Oddly the BBC report seems to have been pulled, so I cannot refer back to it.

A bit more info on the debacle…

It’s the Computer Museum they are barred from not Bletchley itself, isn’t it? I haven’t seen any other reports hence my comment about corroboration.

…there is as yet no corroboration of the report anyway.

Err, how much more corroboration do you want? The CEO, Ian Standen, basically tells the volunteers “thanks for your time, now f88k off”….
Where would BP be today without it’s volunteers? It would probably have been bulldozed and housing built in its place.

And I feel for Jack Darrah and his Churchill Collection – there is a lot of stuff there and I suspect at his advanced years it will all be packed into crates and never seen again. He personally welcomed every one who stepped through the doors and gave a brief explanation of the collection…

The row is between the Trust and the Museum, which the Trust no longer wants volunteers to be involved.
Sounds like more of an internal spat to me and there is as yet no corroboration of the report anyway.

There is probably more to this than meets the eye.Once again money gets involved and everything turns nasty.
It may be a requirement of part of the lottery fund that the museum is seen to becoming a more open modern display.

Sounds like personalities have taken over from common sense.
