Yes, I am not discounting movies but I think the best way to give enough screen-time any worthwhile story is with a mini-series. Strangely ‘Das Boot’ managed to be both.

Agree with what is said about The Pacific, even though a good series, it just didn’t seem to have the cohesion that Band of Brothers had and never appeared to flow as well from episode to episode.
I would put Downfall up alongside Das Boat.

Good idea in theory CD, but I wonder how easily the various aims could be achieved. Das Boot is the only piece of fiction that really worked for me. Documentary resonates better and Thames Television’s The World at War has never been bettered in my view.

I think it is about time a decent mini-series was produced in Britain with an entertaining and historically accurate account of some aspect of the major British contribution to the defeat of the Axis powers in World War Two.
In my view the two best screen portrayals of World War Two are ‘Band of Brothers’ and ‘Das Boot’.
I was not so keen on the follow-up ‘Pacific’ and I haven’t seen this new series (although the trailer looks promising) but I think there is a danger of Britain (and the Commonwealth) being ‘written-out’ of popular history as seen on-screen.
To add insult to injury ‘Band of Brothers’ was predominantly produced in the United Kingdom with much British talent, both on, and off screen!

I hope so too, the USA has picked it up and are running it, judging by this clip the German production team have not held back and kudos to them for being accurate in their representation of what happened during the war.

As it was TV series broadcast months ago in Germany then I would thought a theatre release in the UK would be very unlikely, especially as the BBC have bought the right to broadcast it in the UK.
Didn’t realise it had already been released ,oh well hopefully the BBC will play it in it’s full version and not edit it out.

I can’t see mainstream cinemas kicking out Disneys big eyed animated type films to make time for this.

I wonder how they will approach the subject?
Watching `the enemy` killing allied troops is going to be interesting problem to deal with.

Certainly will be worth a watch i think.I daresay it will probably go straight to dvd over here .I can’t see mainstream cinemas kicking out Disneys big eyed animated type films to make time for this.
