Auster Flight

Just wanted to thank the Forumites involved with making the Auster Flight for my Father’s 60th happen.

He had 2 flights yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed himself, bringing back a lot of memories, and as I was the reason that he gave up his PPL in ’69 it was nice to organise this for him.

As a side-benefit I was able to show my local club’s fleet to my wife, including their nice Beech Duchess, which I suggested would be an excellent way of getting across to the continent for a weekend, once the kids are old enough to palm off…….talk is now of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’ I get my PPL back….

So a great day all ’round, Thanks chaps!

That’s a concept I’ve never met before 😉 🙂

Yes but when you are struggling to pay for your flying (at 4 pound 15 shillings an hour dual!) the last thing you want to do is fly when it doesn’t really count towards your licence. What would have been better would be to have not flown when the weather was bad (i.e. exercised some will power) and used the money to fly solo on a nice day!

Yes I purchased it a few years ago. It is a very good book.

Stan was CFI when I started my training but then he went off on some business venture and Wing Commander Pickford took over. Stan eventually came back.

I lived in Southend so I used to get a lift every Sunday with Jack Pickerell who was the other instructor. In the summer I would scrounge a lift back on the Dakota. The problem of being so remote was that I would fly (dual) even if the weather was bad having gone all that way so I finished up wasting a lot of money on unnecessary flying hours. Still enjoyed it though!

Your father may well know the instructor Stan Ward, on this link

.

I remember him doing crazy flying demonstrations at Seething airshows for many years as “Stanley Wardski”.

Not half you’re not! 😀

Congratulations Wessex Boy, I t!hink you were trying to arrange this a couple of months ago, then silence. So how did you work it out or is that a secret as you haven’t divulged it!

A Kindly owner PM’ed me and offered to fly down to my local patch and pick Dad up. We had to wait for Dad’s birthday, and then the Weather and all of our schedules had to come together, which it did on the second attempt.

Great aircraft, certainly stood out as something special surrounded by the ubiquitous Yank spam cans, shame British GA manufacturers went the same way as cars, Bikes, Ships….

Remember the ARV super 2? great idea, just didn’t quite make it (My local Bike/Go Kart Racing specialist in Royston made the Exhaust Pipes)
