Yeah it’s a pretty bad thing to hear at the best of times. My condolences to the families of the pilot and student who were killed. I know the AAIB are investigating, however *any* inkling as to what caused the crash?

What is in the public domain is that some form of mechanical problem was reported.

Beyond that – Auster Fan has it right.

I don’t think we should lower ourselves to the level of media speculation. Let’s leave it to the AAIB to sort out.

Enough said. Condolences to all concerned.

This is tragic,

it wasn’t on local TV, my thoughts are with the family, if he said it came straight down maybe the aircraft stalled after the suggested engine failure,

MEDIA

Tragic news on such a glorious day fro flying

Typical rubbish in media ‘hero pliot avoiding crashing into houses’. Don’t think the thing was under much control at all, lots of green bits on final for that runway. It ended up in someones back garden for gods sake.

Confirmed now that it was a PA-38 Tomahawk.

There is some suggestion that the Cherokee is, in fact, a PA38.

Doesn’t make it any the less tragic.
