The best car you ever owned??

As talking about cars seems to be always in vogue, what is the best car you ever owned, and wished you had never got rid of?

Happy Days they were too Dave. Don’t come back here, as we are very fast becoming an Ethnic minority here, and I am not joking either.

Hi Jim,

Yes, that was us living in the old ‘Three Tuns’ in Holbeach Clough. Must’ve been the Chipmunk wings in the front garden that were a giveaway! Happy days!!

Haven’t been in Holbeach for quite a while now, live and work in Norfolk.
I’m still involving Dad in old bits and pieces but then it’s not work for him now.

All the best

Dave

It’s a nice thought but remember the new car is Mrs Moggy’s not mine – and if you think I’d let her loose in one of those…

A couple of years back I was navigating a PA28 back from San Sebastian and we were weathered in somewhere in the middle of France. I got a text from a friend in Suffolk “You just scorched past me on the A11”

You guessed – Mrs Moggy making the most of my 996.

Hi radarsdesk. I guess you must be Daves son, and lived out Holbeach Clough way, and sold Chipmonl spares?.
If so, I knew your mum and dad well, and was always made welcome, and with a cuppa, spent many a time talking to your father.and a good tea spot!!
Nice to know both parents are O.K. and enjoying their retirement. Please pass on my best wishes to them both.

Standard Vanguard PU

Hi Jim,

The picture of the Standard Vanguard PU shown in the link is one that Dad restored in the back of the K&L Aero stores in Barrington Gate in Holbeach. The picture was taken after he had sold it as when he had it the bumpers/grille/hubcaps were painted the same blue as the rest of the vehicle. The Vanguard was restored there after we had done a couple of wartime jeeps, and there was a sand coloured Vanguard outside for a while that was used as spares reclamation (still have some of them now!!).They were both rescued from a place not too far from Milton Keynes.

Dad and Mum send their best to you from a sunny (but windy) Cromer where they are both enjoying retirement.

In answer to your questions Jim,

1 Yes Saloons,Estates and these

2 I don’t know I just begged money for petrol in it and it went. I only ever opened the bonnet to put oil and water in it!

I hope you kept moving at the vintage show Jim, or you might have found them taking pictures of ya :p

Funny you should mention that Tony, There was a young couple came up to a Vintage car I just happened to be sitting in, I was having 20 “Winks” not quite asleep, when I heard them say, “The cars O.K. but the driver is in need of a full restoration job,” Cheeky Bugge**, 😀

This stuff doesn’t go into the tank, it’s not an additive.

That smell, that gasoline smell. It smells like when I used to go to the Speedway, The Rayleigh Rockets
It smelt like Victory. 🙂

Yea, go the Rayleigh Rockets. Used to go see them every time they raced at home. Pity the stock cars that come later, ruined the track and the bikes disappeared. Even the stadium’s gone now. Happy days of my youth still remembered.

Ah now I’ve got your drift – thought you meant a classic car show. But I can see it would have been just up your street!;)

It’s near Fawkham, Kent.

Edit. Just got what you meant Chas, it was a Show and Shine show, for younger Petrol Heads, but they have plenty of Trade Stands there, and one can pick up rather good reduced priced items, for folks like me, who like throwing money away and modding my cars, promo items, what the latest software, bodywork kits etc.I think you get my Tokyo drift 😀

Three hours back some guy drove off in my 996.

Sad day, even though it was always planned.

Me too Chas, I would have liked to have gone to Brands Hatch this W/end, there was a good show I would like to have seen, unfortunately the jungle drums don’t quite make it here in this God forsaken place, so it was too late to get anything organised, when I found out.

Sounds marvellous. We have one near here every year and every year more exhibitors and more visitors. And grouped by make so Triumphs, Morgans, Minors, Jags, etc. A 3 hour nostalgic wallow for me!!;)
