I always like to stop, look and spend some time at any war memorials I see whilst on my travels, and came across these a couple of weeks back on The Island… what struck me, apart from the striking designs, were the number of losses with common surnames… I’m assuming that the community was smaller there than it is now, so those with the same surnames were most likely related in some way… one example in the first picture – the Corletts..13 losses in WW1 with a further 10 in the later conflict…
