Car Insurance help needed

Can anyone suggest a Car Insurance provider, that charges a reasonable premium?.
Having spent hrs yesterday trawling through loads, I cannot seem to find a decent priced one.
Anyone recommend any Specific Company, who show you the small print when applying online.

I have a Broker too Gary, and use him for the house contents, and building Ins. I used to be with him for car Insurance, but he started to up his own cut, and also started to deal with Companies I had never heard of.
It sure is a minefield out there, as they have so many “Escape” clauses in their Master Policy, which of coarse you never get to see, only the cut down version when they send your docs out. Makes one tempted to go without :highly_amused:

Many thanks Moggs, Mine is due this month, so I may well travel down your route,(Only because I had a claim myself this year) and it was not my fault.
Cheers for the info.

In these days of the internet and comparison sites it is easy to lose sight of the effectiveness of a good broker.

I use http://www.aplan.co.uk/motoring/car-insurance. I started with them when I first bought my current weekend car and they have gradually managed to get a better deal for me on the other two cars than I could manage myself, so they now look after the lot, and my house insurance too. The thing I like best about them, apart from their ability to get me a stonking good deal on the sort of cars some shy away from is that near renewal time they always phone me up and say – Your existing insurer is quoting £XXX.XX for the renewal this year, the best deal I can get you is £YYY.YY.

Once in a while I cross check with comparison sites, but frankly I have never had any need to do anything other than let A-Plan do it for me. I have had one claim and it went through seamlessly.

No John, Sadly those days have long since gone, when even an Advanced Police Patrol car driver got me a few quid off. I, and my wifes cars both have the highest rated security alarms in them, kept in the garage, security P.I.R. lights, but even that lot won’t get a penny off.
I think the Insurance Companies think that every time you take your car out, you go looking for an accident, when in reality, it’s just the opposite.
Just plain greed.

Do you belong to an association (AA, RAC, Retired people, Former Police, whatever) that has a “deal” with companies?

Thanks Baz, I thing she has got one with Aviva, I kept out of it, and let her get on with it, offering help with the odd thing she didn’t understand, however I think all Insurance Companies are rip off merchants.

I do not always go for the cheapest quote either…once I draw up a shortlist of companies I then google for reviews of the companies service !Churchill were good and I was with the Coop for years (excellent customer service) but they all seem to fall into the trap of once they think you are too lazy to move on – they jack up the premium LOL
I am with the Coop eco insurance this year but it is a less flexible policy than the ‘proper’ Coop insurance…I am hoping the proper coop will try to woo me back next time LOL

Jim,

Every year I go hunting. Basv’s suggestion of ‘confused.com’ is good. For me it is a ‘toss-up’ between M & S and Churchill. I have two cars with Churchill who offer a two or more car discount. More times than not it comes down to the variations in price charged for Legal expenses cover and Breakdown.

Awful nit-picking, time consuming, aggravating procedure

Tricky question Jim and I fear there is no easy answer – car insurance is one of the most illogical rackets we ever have dealings with !
Other than using a comparison website which cuts down on the fingerwork (ie only enter your details once) i usually use confused.com and sometimes then go direct to the insurer or sometimes do it through confused.
One of my 70 yo friends gets a good deal through the post office but there seems to be absolutely no logic to how much they charge different people !

Good luck !!
