Some shots from the start of the Clipper 13-14 Yacht race in London, I based myself the wrong side of Tower Bridge really but still found it a great thing to witness.

I have always had a fascination with sailing ships and can fully understand why you would want to book a place on one. With me it’s less age stopping more the fact I often get terribly sea sick. I was joking with the wife that if we did the round the world yacht race, we would probably be as sick as dogs by time got to Southend.

I think Martin, If I were younger, I would apply for a place on one of the “Tall Ships” races, I can just imagine the view from the “Crows Nest”, must be a fantastic experience. They were the days, when men were men, not like today, where Playstations etc rule kids lives.

Thanks Jim, I do remember the Whitbread races, I seem to recall being on the Isle of wight one year when the race was passing through the Solent, I was fairly young at the time but remember it being a pretty big event.
Do you still have the jacket?, Glad you like the photos, I chose the wrong position really as only four of the twelve clippers went through Tower bridge, the rest went straight from St Catherine’s dock and down river.

Once again, you have captured the moment Martin, with some brilliant photos. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Remember the Round The World Whitbread race?, when I was in Falmouth, long after the race had ended, I purchased a new waterproof jacket, made from part of the number 7 boats sail, they even managed to incorporate the “7” at the back of the jacket.
