Not Burma Spitfires but Hollywood Ferraris.

In 1974, the owner of a new 246 GTS Ferrari Dino, had parked his car up outside a Hollywood Night Club. U.S. of A. for a night out with his wife.
Surprise, surprise, it was nicked, and never seen again, despite extensive searches being made by the Fuzz.
Fast forward to 1978, and some kids playing on some waste land, “Bounced” on something buried in the ground.
The ground was cleared, and the Ferrari Dino, was found, air intakes had been covered up, and the car had a blanket and plastic wrapped around it, no doubt for the car to be recovered at a later date. The owners Insurance Co had paid up, but took the car back into their ownership, and later sold.
It took surprisingly little for the car to be fully restored and is now owned by a guy in C.A. and in pristine condition.

It would appear that for the 4 yrs the car had been buried, very little rain had fallen in that area which no doubt helped to preserve the car.
I suppose the moral is, is instead of employing all those experts to try and find the “Missing” Spitfires in Burma, just employ a group of kids…:D

I wonder if the kids got a reward for finding it?

In this day and age the kids would cover it in graffiti and then torched it.

Not just kids, look what happened to Sgt Coppings P40 when it was found!

Gary The full story is in Mays issue of Classic and Sports car Mag. It would appear that a Cop was at the scene, so the kids had no option to damage it.
