I was surprised to see the winning entry of the Eurovision Song Contest on the news today.
I was completely unaware that eurovision was actually on. But then there are a lot of events during the year that
used to be very, very big but now can pass by without so much as an `Ehh?`.
Snooker, Grand National, Boat Race, Trooping the Colour, Lord Mayors Show.
Even Christmas and Easter seem to be waning in popularity.
Especially when it comes to TV entertainment.
Why are we becoming so disinterested?

It’s ALWAYS been a sh*t shower.

It’s worth noting that though we effectively got nowhere (What do you expect entering some welsh granny?) the whole show became a sort of tribute to Danny Boyle and the Olympic opening ceremony with drummers everywhere. So the uk influence is there, even if no b*gg*r votes for us.

Last night, my Girlfriend wanted us to watch a bit of it and the voting results just for a laugh on iPlayer, rather hesitant I agreed. It’s just… bad. We watched about 10 minutes of the voting and it was the same as usual, neighbors that used to pillage each other voting for one another. I understand that the only way you could vote is by calling in?… just another way of getting more money out of you.
A very sad “show”. It’s time it got axed, in the UK at least.

Another thing I find amazing, is that (apparently 🙂 ) the majority of the performers choose to sing in English.
They did bring out a rule in the distant past, that everyone had to sing in their own language. Maybe they
should reinstate that rule ?

When they stopped the general public’s involvement, it was the end of any reason to watch. At least having a vote gave me some reason to watch each (different) performer, with each (different) song. Now, we’re simply told who the “artist” will be, and a committee chooses the song, and we all know how good committees are.
Same thing applies to Sports Personality of the Year, with us being told who we’ll vote for. No I flaming well won’t; I’ll vote for my choice, for my own reason, or I won’t take part (or bother to watch, in both cases.)

I thought only unelected, overpaid Brussels bureaucrats were allowed to vote so I didn’t participate, in much the same way that I don’t feel it’s worth trying to participate in any political process.

It was good when Wogan was on it with his comments.
Norton isn’t so bad. Not as good as Wogan 🙂

I haven’t watched it for ages (what ever happened to Katie Boyle ? 🙂 )
In more recent years (although I can’t stand the bloke), I would just turn for the voting, to hear the humorous comments
made by Wogan.

I watched a bit of Eurovision but then turned over once the voting began. It just seems like a political vote rather than about the songs.

Forgotten the Vikings already, Moggy?
I reckon the passing of a millennium is enough to allow forgiveness

Who won it, and where did the UK come ?

Forgotten the Vikings already, Moggy? Tsk.

Basically, if you don’t rape, pillage, commit genocide, war crimes, famine, public executions and torture your neighbours to death… you’re not going to get any votes from them.
Yeah, what are those Danes like huh?

The Russian song was beautifully performed & a great song . Most of the rest was the ho humm typical Euro garbage ….but Graham Norton was quite funny …

Yeah, that’s the one. My bad! I really enjoyed watching him play.

I don’t remember his name now, Chinese fella… what a great, upbeat guy. Full of character and fun to watch, and also a very good player with lots of potential.
Do you mean the Thai player, Dechawat Poomjaeng, who lost a frame on the “Three Miss” rule?

Blimey LOL,that’s a leap of logic.
Not sure that logic comes into it – just a gut feeling really, with a smidgen of truth……the Blair years certainly did our traditions little good.

Snooker – – boring ,the days of Hurricane Higgins have gone.My grandparent would spend all day watching stuff like that but grandparents of today seem more mobile.
I used to enjoy watching Snooker. Was never crazy over it or would go out my way to watch it but enjoyed it nevertheless. I just stopped watching it when the likes of Shaun Murphy started taking titles… no emotion, feelings, character or anything. Winning a title was like getting a Century. Even ‘The Rocket’ seems a little bored while blasting everyone else out the venue. Saying that, in the last Tournament I thoroughly enjoyed watching… I don’t remember his name now, Chinese fella… what a great, upbeat guy. Full of character and fun to watch, and also a very good player with lots of potential.

Simple – the Blair years alienated us from our traditions.
Blimey LOL,that’s a leap of logic. I think it is the more of the fact that in their heyday there wasn’t a huge amount of competition.Nowadays you have 1000’s of useless tv channels, computers, gaming and general other leisure things.
Snooker – – boring ,the days of Hurricane Higgins have gone.My grandparent would spend all day watching stuff like that but grandparents of today seem more mobile.
Grand National -still on but not really the be all and end all
Boat Race-we watch it because we live near Cambridge but why would anyone else really be that interested?
Years ago you had 2 or 3 TV channels and also “habit” passed down from generation to generation people have just moved on really.

There’s no point in Eurovision, especially for the UK. We could make the Beatles go on and no one would still vote for them. Basically, if you don’t rape, pillage, commit genocide, war crimes, famine, public executions and torture your neighbours to death… you’re not going to get any votes from them.
It costs the BBC around £50 million for this sh*te every year… for that amount they could pay for the extra half of the Formula 1 season and show where Britain’s talents really are.
