Chatting to a friend today, we found ourselves talking about a few TV comedy shows of the 60s and early 70s
Two of the three starred Peggy Mount, I’d forgotten how funny she was. George and the Dragon saw both her and Sid James in a comedy whereby Sid played the part of a Chauffeur to an eccentric Colonel, played by John Le Mesurier. Mount played the part of a new, and bombastic housekeeper. The plot line centred around poor ‘ol Sid’s attempts to be rid of her, with the help of the Gardner.
The other one was entitled ‘Lollipop Loves Mr Mole’ In this one, Peggy (Lollipop) starred alongside Hugh Lloyd (Mr Mole) her long suffering husband. Sharing their house were here sister in law, played by Pat Coombs, and her husband, actor unknown to me. Only two episodes exist now, and I can only find one.
Last, but by no means least, The Dustbinmen. Featuring the antics of the ‘Thunderbird 2’ dustcart crew.
Comedy from a gentler age. Anyone here remember any others like these?

Many Thanks for that info charlie. I can remember Orlando, starred a guy called Sam Kydd I believe. I seem to remember The Freewheelers at that time too. I’ve just remembered another of the ‘gentler comedy’ genre. Meet The Wife, starring Thora Hurd and Freddie Frinton. Anyone else remember that one?

He was Rex Garner, who did stacks of TV through the late 50s and 60s. Famously in My Wife and I co-starring with Mai Zetterling ( my crumpet from, those days!!) and lots with Dick Emery in the early 60s and then Orlando and According to Dora towards the end of the 60s.

Yes they were the days of gentler comedy although T’il Death Do Us Apart might be an exception.

I loved “The Dustbin Men” with Winston (always on about “Colin Piggin’ Bell) Cheese & Egg, and Smelly Ibbotson.
