Race2Recovery

I just managed to catch the 2nd of a two part showing of the above. It was about four two men teams, driving 4 Land Rovers in the Dakar Rally.
The difference was that these guys were soldiers who had been in Afghanistan, and who had their limbs blown off by I.E.Ds.
One driver had artificial legs others had only one good leg etc.
Despite 3 of the four Land Rovers giving up the ghost, one finished the race, setting a record for the first Amputees to complete the Dakar Rally.
At one stage, one driver had sand between his stump, and his prosthetic leg, it was painful, and I guess many of us would have called it a day, but not this chap, he detached his stump from his prosthetic leg, gave the artificial leg a good dose of WD40, and carried on.
What a fantastic achievement by any standards. Plus they had all the usual breakdown to deal with, ie broken shock absorbers, over heating, all of which they had to fix themselves.
What an inspiration to us all.
In just two years after having both legs blown off, one guy learned how to walk, then train, to take part in the Dakar.
Well done lads, from the drivers to the support waggons.
British Guts at it’s best.I take my hat off to them all.
