North/ South divide

I have often wondered why there is such a thing, as some like to think, there is such a thing as the North, South divide.
I am sitting on the boarder where I live.
What’s your opinion?.

Jim… apparently we are in the East Midlands according to the Met Office and the rest of the govt !! ??

..as for the Hovis hill.. thats in Shaftsbury in Dorset.. !

as for the OP… I think the differences in attitude etc have blurred/been dilluted as time has gone on, especially with the increase in ethnic mix ‘darn sarf’, not many jellied-eel chomping, pearly jacketed cockerneys left in that there London…

We are in Cambridgeshire so possibly almost middle ground, blooming expensive middle ground .
North /South divide. I think if you have a good job up North you have a good way of life but you need a good job down souff to stand a chance BUT this comes down to location.
With the demise of industries and large areas of unemployment the attraction of living in that area is then muted unless you have family or just can’t afford to move.
Regarding personalities,we have found Northerners seem to be more open and friendly where as Southerners seem to take a while to open up but afterwards are friendly.
I think depending on your personal circumstances affects your outlook.

There’s a definite north-south divide here in New Zealand. It’s called Cook Strait. I have lived in both the North Island and the South Island. Both are great. But getting across the bloody strait in the middle is an expensive pain in the butt.

Hi Dave, I have a nephew, who is at present in New Zealand. He is self employed, parternered with a lady Brief from London. They left the U.K. Jan 1st, and have travelled to China, Vietnam, Aus, and at present, as stated, in, N.Z. He Posts photos of his journeys on Facebook. He stated that N.Z. is the most beautiful place he has ever been to, and judging by some of the photos, you are very lucky to live there, if his photos are anything to go by.:very_drunk: and he loves the beer.

Great, brilliant M.P. take, We were so poor, we lived in a bomb crater, used the water in the bottom for washing, cooking, and the toilet, walked to t’Mill soaking wet, worked 17 hrs a day 7 days a week, for two, P, which father smacked us with a wet kipper to take off us, KIDS, they don’t know they are born these days. 😀

[QUOTE=paul178;2016638]Come on Jim you live north of Watford so you qualify for clogs and rain on the cobbles on the “way to mill!”

Paul, Guess your right, I used to be the lad pushing the Bakers Bike upt t’hill with Hovis in the basket, as seen ont telly, then ont to Mill for a 17 hrs stint, then up all night helping t’Baker to make more bl$$dy Hovis that day. But I loved those days, gave me a sense of humour if nothing else. 😀

One thing that springs to mind, is the vast difference in house prices. Personally, I have found the folks up North, more friendly.not that I have any axe to grind with those down South, Indeed, my son lives in Cornwall, and has stated he would never come back up here to live, even though the cost of living is cheaper.

All in the imagination or the eye of the media! I’ve been married to a Yorkshire lass for nearly 50 years and have spent a lot of time “oop North”. Love both North and South and reckon there are equal numbers of friendly souls and plonkers everywhere

Married to a Yorkshire Lass Chas?, no need to ask you who wears the trousers in your house then.:D
HEY. Just noticed the Mods have found my little green smiley man,See, they DO take notice of what we say/ask for, Thanks guys.
