Whatever else he does he could make a start by focussing and trimming the bloated news department – quite apart from setting in place higher standards of objective reporting. There is far too much duplication of resources -feed TV and radio off each other instead of having separate teams for sound and vision. Totally unnecessary. And far too many specialists the lines between whom are so blurred as to be indistinguishable sometimes. In a recent report in connection with the Thatcher death and funeral there were no less than 4 different reporters saying practically the same thing.
