Forget Aircraft for a minute and work out how you are going to get here!
I am going to go as long as there is breath in my body!

We used to work a sand train from Fen Drayton-Camb to KX top yard [the Fen Drayton bit is now a guided busway ].
The loco shed is just off Finsbury Park station [was it Ferme Park depot?] .
We had 08 pilots at Cambridge and you had to transfer the fuel via a hand pump and pump the oil pressure up as well.

Hi Gary, Sure do, never seen so many Deltic photos before. they were seen at Doncaster Works, and Finsbury Park, but funnily enough I never saw one at New England. The two small “Shunters” as I called them were easy to work on, but to start one, you had like a boat bailer pump, which pumped the diesel around the system, I,I,R,C, it took nearly 100 side to side swings of the pump, to get the fuel and pressure up to enable to start them.
If I only knew then, what Railway Memorabillia fetched today, I would have “Filled my boots” with stuff, as nothing drawn from the stores was ever accounted for.
Thanks for posting them for me, “Happy days”.and nice to see, Where were they taken?.
Jim.

I had the misfortune to serve a year at Finsbury Park, (Little Australia, it was then known as) during the transitional period between steam and diesel.
Many years ago, but I guess it’s changed a lot in over 50yrs.
I remember working on the Deltic, anyone remember them?. nightmares to work on.

In my school hols, I used to stay with my 2nd cousin at Finsbury Park and spotted most of the “Streaks” from the hill by the park. 😀

I still have my 1960 combined edition train spotting book, less covers. Does that count? 😀
That will do just fine! Have a look through and se if you have underlined them or “cabbed them” If not its a pilgrimage to York for you!:D
On a serious note Don’t forget World Records. The UK holds one that I never see being beaten
Mallard set the official world speed record for steam locomotives when it reached 125.88 mph on July 3 1938 on Stoke Bank south of Grantham.
So to the rest of the world put that in your firebox and smoke it!

The old station clock from Lossiemouth bought by my grandfather who worked there when it was closed down in the 60s.

Trainspotters? How dare you! :dev2:;)
Ferroequinologists. “Railway enthusiasts” is also acceptable. 😉

I used to love trains before I got into aeroplanes, but now and then I do love the sight and sound of First Great Western’s HSTs rumbling past.;)

Beat Ya! I was working on Mallard 50 odd yrs ago, Stupid Fireman lowered the water pick up shute at the water trough between Grantham and Peterborough, but failed to wind it up in time and bent it. I had to take a new scoop to the Station, and change it, not very nice to do, when the engine had a full head of steam, and there were men on the footplate,
Nostalgia?, perhaps, but working for 6yrs,on steam engines, I think I will give it a miss.

I love Old Warden but if I lived a bit closer to East Sussex, I’d certainly volunteer there.
