Stephane Haug sent me these photos today, and says that the Spitfire has been successfully test-flown for the required 15hrs and its first show will be 2nd-3rd July at Yverdon(sp?), Switzerland.

You can see the aircraft in more detail at: http://www.spitfires.ch

Sounds good, keep us posted

I’m sure the guy building the MJ10 was on the replica builders’ group list. Can’t think of his name, but he was quite far ahead with it, I think.

Sounds interesting. Looking forward to see a MJ10 in the UK

I know there is at least one MJ10 under construction in the UK – not sure what engine is being used, but I can’t see the PFA agreeing to a Chevy being installed!

Small block chevy V8s make their way into american experimentals. I’ve seen a photos of the Lancair IV with one in. Don’t know how the conversion comes about though. EAA question time?

Barry – not sure about that engine. My French is… pathetic!… and unfortunately Stephan Haug’s English is not too hot, either. I can try and ask him, though. I’ll be writing an article on this aircraft soon 🙂
Some nice images to be found online of the Spit at her first display.

Re: the Chevrolet Engine…Is this an “off-the-shelf” unit? Does it have the dual ignition heads and what type of ignition? What type of “reduction” gearbox and what make is the propeller? Is it dry or wet sump? The reason I am asking is that I will shortly be using a Chevrolet in my application
Thanks
Barry

With that Chevy up front, giving it the long nose, it looks more like a Griffon-engined Spit, but it does look better than the Mk26 in terms of overall shape.
The 26’s big advantage, of course, is that it’s a kit and so doesn’t take so long to build…

You are possibly right, but I still hold that the sound of the Merlin is 50% of the lure of the Spitfire and Hurricane.

Call me a philistine if you wish, but I prefer the Griffon.

Moggy, it’s a Chevvy V8. You wouldn’t give a stuff what it sounded like if you were able to go fly the thing! :p
Nice looking replica – better than the Mk26?

I followed the link for the movie of the first flight.
Bearing in mind it was shot by an amateur with a domestic videocam it looks quite convincing.
However, with the sound turned up 😮 Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!

A very good effort, and in the murky world of looky-likey Spitfires, certainly one of the better ones. The slight deviations from R.J.M’s original design are obvious for all to see and are not worth stating, here, but the main thing is it does not look like a green/brown Taylor Titch!
It will look even better if they let it ‘weather’ a bit, scuffed and streaky the way the Shuttleworth AR501 used to.
