Tense hours for some museum organisations on the east coast today. Here’s hoping they come through OK.

Would seem the bubble the shuttle was in was designed to withstand a 100 year storm, however they missed the little fact that if power went out it would deflate!

You simply don’t get it do you?
PEOPLE are more important than bits of redundant, retired, ironmongery – or even woodwork!

This may well be an Aviation Forum, however these threads are, I.M.H.O in the right place, General Discussion, an area whereby anything else not related to Aviation can be posted.
I am sure I will be told if I am wrong, however this terrible freak of nature is very topical at the moment, I cannot put into words how I would feel if I had lost a member of my family, as opposed to losing something material wise. The is no comparison whatsoever.A lost life is a lost life.

I don’t think you’re able to judge my full appreciation of the value of human lives and livelihoods, with all due respect. As I’ve explained before, I personally don’t think an aviation forum is the place for me to express that appreciation when it is not related to aviation. And of course I fully understand if others feel differently.
Can we stay on-topic now?

Yes I do get it, I have friends living in New York State near the beach, but this is an Aviation Forum, and as such I am posting about aviation, I have been trying to email my friends family since it struck but have not had any replies, so please don’t tell me I don’t fecking get it!

The “superstorm” Sandy flooded Pier 86 on the west side of Manhattan, where the Intrepid is anchored, submerging part of the museum’s main entrance under water.
That’s not good as Concorde is parked on the pier

It would appear the Intrepid suffered some damage in the storm:

The replica HMS Bounty has been sunk, crew taken out of life boats sadly twp other crew members are missing.
Things can be rebuilt, things can be replaced but a life never can be.
The body of Claudine Christian (42), supposedly a direct descendent of Fletcher Christian, was pulled from the water by the Coast Guard a couple of hours ago.
The ship’s Captain is still missing.

😮 My son has just gone out there with his school ,they are at a YMCA place at the moment.
Gosh – downtown, or away from the centre? I hope they will be OK. I heard that most flights from here to NYC had been cancelled.

This is Atlantic City, New Jersey, a short while ago:

The whole city is reported to be this way.
Sandy is expected to make landfall tonight — near Atlantic City.

No one has suggested it was wrong. It was simply the perception that artefacts have more value than human life. Which has been denied by the OP anyway, so no harm done!:)
There is a philosophical arguement there, but this is not the time or place.
Here’s hoping, everyone, both people and inanimate objects, get through ok!

I was aboard her not too long ago, when she visited Newburgh, New York (on the Hudson). Handsome ship.

Why is showing concern for museums or exhibits wrong?
Is concern restricted to just living things then?
If the RAF Museum was suddenly destroyed by fire that would be fine would it? I think not!
