So my plans for an invasion of the Isle of Wight were thwarted by a lack of brakes so I sat at Popham with Russ Williams (check out http://www.russellw.com/) and we had a good time.
However, we heard that 100+ aeroplanes had got to Sandown. Any of you chaps get there?

What’s Sandown like for windsheer?
I went to Bembridge for the 2nd time on Tuesday last week and landing was a nightmare again, 50ft over the threshold and the stall warner was going off even with +10kts cushion
this was on rwy 30, coming in on rwy 12 last time I flew in there was equally as bad, had 2 go arounds, the horror.

Pics from IoW
The first of these was sent to me by Jan, whose 170 got there a bit earlier than us.
The second isn’t really Sandown, but it’s a nice pic anyway of the return crossing in G-ANFM.
Thanks to all at Sandown for their welcome. We’ll be back!

I got up early, went back to bed, got up again and went for a fly around north Norfolk dodging the showers. This is after being frustrated by Saturdays 30kt crosswind gusts meaning I was going nowhere.
I have everything crossed for better weather this coming weekend before the 172 annual starts.

Success!
All three aircraft referred to in the previous Sandown thread made it to Sandown – Super Cub, C150 & C172. We all staged in from Thruxton and it was a real treat to find Sandown back to its “hot summer saturday afternoon” level of activity. The lads and lasses made valiant efforts to keep food and drink in constant supply and the chap manning the radio did a stirling job of remaining calm and cheerful with a great variety of aircraft arriving and departing.
Thanks to all at Sandown for an excellent event.

So what is the restaurant like then? Fully booked, I guess!

Yes. Thanks to the ace crosswind skills of John Coker, we got down nicely in Tiger Moth G-ANFM.
One of the locals said he’d logged 155 aircraft. It certainly was pretty hectic in the pattern (and the hold for takeoff) at times.
Many thanks to all at Sandown for a great day, particularly the guy manning the a/g in the tower. Coolness under pressure are the words to describe him. And I think he still found time to say have a ‘good trip’ or ‘thankyou for coming’ to every departing aircraft. A nice touch!
