So, Having spent a week at Popham covering for Richard and Tracey, the people who run the clubhouse, and having had a very busy week I decided to go flying last night. Carol (aka Her Indoors) came down and we blatted around the sky a bit.
The Rearwin is going really well. Carol had never been in an aeroplane that stalled so we went up to 3,000ft and I showed her the totally benign stall and then we went and did a bit of cloud flying. There was not much cloud and it was up around 4,000ft but it was fun.
This week I had also gone and tested the new grass runway at Dunsfold.
It is a fun aeroplane.

Brilliant Pics Melvyn!
I was longing to take the sky this week-end but had others plans I could not change… but to make up for it, I worked on a flying story I am hoping to post on this forum soon. Thanks for the inspiring photos.

Good oh.
If your starboard ear is called ‘Melvin Hiscock’, what’s your port ear called?
Heh.
When I got the headset my cousin made those for me. I think he’d just got a new Dymo machine and was having fun. He also made “Left ear” and “Right ear” and I wanted one that had “The final, front, ear”
Incidentally, the connections on the comms box are marked “Pilot” and “Payload”

Just proves there’s hope for us all.
tell me, Melv, when landing, do you worry about the potenial effort or the cost of repairs?
No, I am fairly relaxed actually. It is funny that shortly after I took control for the first time it ceased to be the aeroplane I rebuilt and just became an aeroplane. The same thing happens when I make guitars, they are not ‘my’ guitars, they are just guitars.
Was the visit to the IoW to test out the engine’s ‘auto-rough’ setting, or to see if narrow strips of water were OK?
Yup, also to put some more time in before France. The disconcerting thing is that I am used to aeroplanes that cruise at 2250rpm and cruising at 1800 does sound a bit like the engine is failing anyhow! I am doing the short crossing when I go to France!
😀
If Parer and MacIntosh could do it in a DH9, what’s keeping you from a visit?
😀 😉 😎
See above re stretches of water!
