So I bought one of these:diablo:
It cuts the grass really quick.
Er,…..any other Fergie owners on here?
Baz
(haven’t taken it off the trailer yet, still getting over the 750mile round trip)

This reminds me a story a friend once told me about his neighbor taking his tractor to the liquor store at 2 o’clock in the morning. He was driving down the sidewalk waking up all the neighbors going about 5 miles per hour. The police ended up stopping him and gave him a DUI.

First tractor I ever drove helping out on local farms as a kid, H&S would have a collective heart attack, 11 years old driving round the corn fields while the men loaded sheaves of corn on the trailer.
I see you have an upright exhaust, the really early ones had an under slung exhaust, really good working on a planter hitched behind one.

…….excellent:D
Drove down to Newquay yesterday and did a ‘run to the sun’ round town!
……the steep hill near RAF St Mawgan was ‘interesting’ with only the starboard brake working on the foot pedal, this was managed with plenty of port steering wheel application.
After snarling up the traffic in the town centre, I drove home with a 50 vehicle convoy, pulling over here and there to let them pass(!)
Have to admit, I’ve been driving that stretch of road for thirty years and only on a tractor do you see everything.
Anyway, next year, ‘run to the sun’ and ‘mini run to the sun’, I’m going to organise ‘Drive your tractor aimlessly round Newquay day’
Was quite amazed at the number of people who stopped me to talk about their affection to the Grey Fergie,……………’spose you could call them extractor fans.
I’ll get me coat….

This pic is the last time I drove an agricultural ‘Trackor’,we had been invited to take 154 (the very first Hawk) back to dunsfold for the wingsnwheels in 2005.
We were promised a professional tug driver for monday morning but I was a wee bit sceptical so I made sure I got a briefing on how to start the old heap 🙂
Sure enough …monday morning – no driver, so I had the pleasure of towing 154 out of the Flight Shed (AKA top gear studio)…my first a/c tow for 22 years LOL,gosh my bosses would have a fit these days 🙂

Of course there was no rear tow hitch so had to reverse all the way…but at least 1 of the brakes worked 🙂

Hi John. re Baz and his tractor, there is a place called the “Farm Cafe” on the A17, just outside Holbeach, he has a VERY large collection of different tractors all in immaculate condition, trouble is, he has a massive front garden, and his collection is just outside his house, just a few yards from the main road, it’s caused one or two accidents, when motorists slow down to look.
I think Baz would be in his element, if he came down here and had a look.

took this fine machine for a short road test last night, think it may need my spare 351 Cleveland V8 for road use 🙂 great little tractor though & in tidy condition too.

Very nice Baz. Begging for RAF blue, a roundel, and MkV trolly acc in tow – even if that isn’t authentic!
James, Knowing Baz, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised, that by Christmas, he will have put WINGS on it.;)

I recon, knowing your sense of humour, you will take great delight in holding traffic up when travelling to Newquay:D

Baz. If you will accept a word of advice, when you get the P.T.O. for your new toy, PLEASE make sure it comes with the safety cover on, and leave it on.
The reason being, is that I once went to a farming accident, and the driver of the tractor had taken the PTO safety cover off, as he was going to use several different implements, so he left the cover off.
Unfortunately, he went to adjust something which was close to the PTO, and his sleeve got caught up in the spinning PTO shaft, and ripped his arm completely off at the shoulder.
Not a pretty sight, I can assure you, as I had to deal with it.
Having said that, a nice little, and collectable tractor.seemingly, well looked after.

Never owned one baz but used to bash up and down various gliding club rwys doing cable retrieve in various ‘trackors’.
Portmoak had a grey petrol one like yours which was quite fast!
And i remember the course instructor at Sutton Bank during a winter gliding course (1969?) trying to start a diesel Fergie with a lighted rag near the intake(cold start u/s)…he managed to set the damn thing on fire LOL:D.
But it was ok we managed to put it out with snowballs 🙂
At Perkins gliding club (Banks Farm) we had a combination of an Austin A40 Somerset and a little vinyard trackor with a Perkins P2 engine for retrieves etc.
cheers baz
PS nice new toy mate 🙂
