The passing of a giant. A man whose personal attributes were exceeded only by his professional.

God speed, Commander.

As a 13 yr old, I stayed up all night with my dad – we watched it on a B&W telly and my dad took photos of the transmissions from the moon as Armstrong climbed down the ladder and stepped onto the Moon’s surface. I was a space race ‘junkie’ – cut out articles and kept a scrapbook.
18 months later my dad died after a short illness – I remember a lot about my dad but that one evening/night stands out in my memories….

RIP Neil Armstrong…

A man who achieved the almost impossible and inspired an enire planet.

His accomplishments were amazing in aviation and not just space travel. All that and to remain a very modest man who described himself as ” a nerdy engineer”.

I read a quote today from his family. To paparphrase it it went along the lines of:
“next time you see the moon just give Neil a wink”

I certainly will………….

God speed a true hero of mankind.

An appreciation:

Among other things, it reminds one of how much aerial real estate that the X-15 used. At one point, we was slated to fly the Boeing X-20 Dyna-Soar.

I wasn’t born at the time of the Apollo 11 mission (I was born in December 1969), but I always have had an interest in what happened in ‘my’ year, possibly the greatest achievement in recent history.

A true hero and pioneer. R.I.P. Neil.

I was about 12, and me and me and my dad stayed awake (only just) to see it. Do you remember the time in the UK, Kev? Think it was about 4.00am? Golden memories, eh?

I was 24 and remember it like yesterday watching it on TV.

“one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,”

RIP Spaceman.

I was eight years old when Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. Mom got me up to watch it because it would be something special, something I would never forget. She was right. 43 years ago Neil Armstrong took a small step for man, yesterday he took a final, giant leap. I hope he finds peace there.

That’s a shame. in a world full of pointless plastic “celebrities,” he and the other astronauts of that era was a true hero.
