Shooting Stars,Meteors,as in outer space

This week n abit further on until about the 23rd is the Meteor shower thingy from space.. 16-18th is about the best time as long as the clouds clear off.

Im sure someone can improve upon my effort and provide an astromony type link to better inform you of where to look (besides “up”) and which direction (besides “up”).

Enjoy your sore necks 😀

I find watching the ISS really facsinating as it glides silently overhead. As for Meteors My neck will kill me if I look up for 30 seconds or more. I have considered sitting in a reclining sun lounger but SWMBO said it would just confirm my neighbours assumption that I am bonkers!

We were out on Saturday night with members of our astronomy cub, by the sea wall on the Dengie peninsular in Essex.

According to the chap who was keeping count.

From darkness to Moonrise at about 00.30hrs we counted 57 meteors, some much
brighter than any star in the sky, two splendid high passes of the ISS and countless other artificial satellites.
The drifting cloud prevented the meteor count from being much higher but an enjoyable night
was had by all despite the very unpromising start.

Only saw 5 this morning it was the only time there were no clouds in the sky, so missed the predicted maximum of 100 + per hour during the peak of the shower on the night of the 12th and 13th. The next good display is the Leonids in Novemeber.

I watched it in the early hours of Sunday morning after the clouds broke up.

What made it more interesting was an electrical storm way off to the north.

Wasn’t overly impressive, but the odd nice streak across the sky.

The perseids and the peak was last weekend.

However, if you wish to see other space things I suggest www.heavens-above.com which will give you timings of things like ISS fly overs and Iridium flares.
