Did anyone else catch the Red Bull air race over the harbour of Abu Dhabi on Sunday (Australian EST)?
I came in towards the end and watched some of the best flying I’ve ever seen. The Hungarian pilot: Peter Besenyei took out the frist round, the next round will be in a months time when they fly over Maylasia.
Peter Besenyei was instrumental in bringing Air Race back to life with a new course and rules designed to bring life back in the sport.
Here is the story from the Red Bull web site

i wonder why all red bull air race pilots are older…there is no young pilots…or there is, but in my country they show on tv only final races for 4 first places… arch is the youngest or?

Each race this year has been on ITV1 late in the evening.
Although I believe ITV4 has been showing the qualifying rounds on saturdays at 5pm.
Was great to see Paul win it. I have watched every race this year and was really pleased for him.
Its also great to see the air race on a decent channel!:cool::cool:

Thanks for the link Seagull. Maybe it’s the way it’s been shot but the aircrafts did seem very low and quite close to the crowd, that’s incredible!
The particular picture “050805AF06” (page 6) made me think of Steve… (I can’t seem to use the link to the pic).

Hi Steph. I was lucky enough to get an invite to the Aviators Lounge at the Red Bull race and it was fantastic. Quite how the CAA allowed the 10 entrants to hurtle round the course at about 20 feet through the gates was a real surprise. There was a crowd of 60,000 and I think it’s moved the UK airshow scene on a couple of notches. They need to review how tickets are made available, they had 500,000 in Hungary so that says they need a different site for next time. For a first time at the venue it was a great success.
