Not that interested myself, but it did turn out to be a spectacular pi$$ up at the pub seeing as it went on right outside.
As ever the Olympics are bought to you by a wide variety of sponsors

for those that are interested, I was drinking Kronenberg with JD chasers

You can rent this one for £70 (per 1 1/2 hours)…..only within London…….only with owner present………not allowed to light it.

By: spitfireman - 28th May 2012 at 23:49
….she really thought she was going to get £153,000:rolleyes:
There will be 8,000 of these things available quite soon, I believe the selling price will end up at a more realistic £500.(or less)

One person talking about selling their torch said they had been selected to carry it because of the fund raising they had done for charity since the loss of someone and the money the torch generated on eBay would be going to the same cause…….. not all are out to make a quick buck…. Good on em.

It gets worse……..
Whilst idly looking at ebay torch sellers, came across this.
“London 2012 Olympic Torch & official Torch Bearer Uniform.
You are bidding on an authentic London 2012 Olympic Torch used in the torch relay on day 5 (Wednesday 23rd May).
The Olympic flame has embarked on a 70-day tour of the UK in the run-up to the London 2012 Games.”
Hang on,…………..its Monday 21st May……….
oh well!

No interest in the Olympics whatsoever, full of cheating, drugged up “athletes” getting paid God knows how much via “sponsorship” deals. Would be better if they were all true amateurs (weren’t they in the last London Olympics?)
As for the torch relay, I am more concerned about the hideous congestion and disruption it will cause in the places round here that it passes through.

EGTC. I havn’t a clue as to what rock it was, but when you email them, they may tell you if you ask them. It must be at the very least just over 20 yrs or so when I was sent mine.

Seem to remember they lifted a grand piano, candelabra, a stool and a crewman in tails up onto a pinnacle in Norway, by Puma I think, then hovered off it and took some pics if him playing lol
By: EGTC - 21st May 2012 at 00:08
Sounds good. What rock was it?
By: Lincoln 7 - 20th May 2012 at 22:05
EGTC. It was not just any old rock, it was tall and came to a point at the top, and his wheel is right spot on the point, That sure is some skill to do that in anyones book.BTW, at the time their PR person was a ladt Officer, although it’s many yrs ago, I am sure they will still use it as a PR job,
Jim.

Thats the one, Jim 🙂
I’ve not seen that photo, but it sounds pretty smart! I will send them an e-mail and ask about it!
Sounds like it did the trick PR-wise. 🙂
By: Lincoln 7 - 20th May 2012 at 20:45
Are they the ones with the Ace of Clubs on their fusilarge, if so, have you seen their publicity photo of their helo with it’s Starboard wheel “Resting” on a rock?. If not, and it’s a great photo, just drop their PR person a line and they will send you one.
I had the first one when I was in the Force, and then within the month, everyone in our nick had one.
They are in a way, the unsung heroes.;)

@EGTC
They certainly sound like top blokes, and a definite credit to the Navy! It’s a shame all public services don’t follow their lead, they are a shining example.
They sure are. When I lived in Cornwall they appeared on TV alot, especially after they have had a night of saving fishermen caught up in gales etc. They do seem to get alot of respect and support from the public and they do alot of good PR for themselves like with the stuff I listed above.
I think Culdrose seems like a good place and workforce in general though. I spent most of my flights down there talking to Culdrose and their ATC were always great and helpful. Also a jetstream pilot was on a course for car maintenance with my mum and he got the whole class a tour of the Merlin maintenance and training facility at Culdrose, I was allowed to tag along and a Merlin instructor took us for a flight in the merlin simulator.
Can’t speak highly enough of all the RN personnel at RNAS Culdrose.

I love that photo! 771 sqdrn if i’m not mistaken!
They are a great bunch! When I did my first solo in 2004 a crew from 771 congratulated me over the radio! 🙂 About a year later a crew from 771 was flying around locally with not much to do radioed in to us at truro and asked if they could give us abit of a display, so we of course was delighted!
Great crew and a valuable part of the Royal Navy.
