If I were lucky enough to have the choice between an E Type Jag, and an original A,C, Shelby Cobra, It would be the Cobra.
Whilst on about cars I would consider a Ferrari 250 GTO.

Sad news I have always seen him as a bit of a legend to me. The AC Cobra is still as stunning today as it ever was. I literally fell in love with the sound and sight(yes sound was first thing that attracted me) of one as a kid and still get excited to see one to this day.
Here is a example of his work

Another of the world’s character’s gone. We’ll soon be left with nothing but grey suits. I’ll probably be gone myself by then thank God.
RIP Carroll.

WoW!! How sad, there is a Classic car show on in Norfolk this W/E and whilst driving along the A17 today saw 4 Morgans several old Classics in Convoy, and the last in the Line was a blue Shelby Cobra,(Replica kit car), I am sad that this man has died, he gave the motoring world so much, and even today, his Cobra can still be purchased in kit form.
R.I.P.

Wow, that’s sad.
I met him at the Barrett-Jackson auction in 2003 where he celebrated his 80th birthday, a very nice guy. I bought a die cast Cobra Daytona coupe from his children’s heart charity trailer and he signed it. He asked where I was from and when I mentioned I was from Abilene and in the Air Force, he mentioned he’s spent some of WWII there as a pilot.
He had a heck of a run….I can’t think of a living American automotive legend who can match him in terms of racing and building success. Dan Gurney comes mighty close (and of course was a F1 world champion, can’r get any better than that), but he never built street cars as popular as the Cobra and the various Shelbys.
Shelby is believed to be the only person to win Le Mans as a driver (with Aston Martin), a manufacturer (class victory with the Cobra Daytona coupe) and team owner (Ford’s GTs).

He did alll right for a guy the doctors said would die almost 50 years ago.
RIP Mr. Shelby following a life well-lived.
