57p says I fly my aircraft solo before you. Deal? :diablo:

Congrats on the solo Melvyn – no doubt it wil be on display this weekend??
Obviously depending on the weather but I shall be there on Monday. I am off on saturday to my nephew’s stag weekend so may fly down to Dunkeswell and meet the hordes there. Will come back on Sunday but that is also weather dependent, and dependent on how much flying I get to do this week.

You must have been at WW after 16.00, by whch time the rest of the Fly-in had departed, ie the other two ! Still, there were two Cubs grinding round the circuit all day. You were lucky to be landing on 11, and not the ski-jump that is 25.

Well, I finally got to drive it a bit yesterday. Decided to go to White Waltham, since it is all over grass, to do the first landings and they were nice and helpful. Screwed up the first approach but got it right next time and again. Approach is about 85 and control is good. It was a relief to finally be flying it.
Back to Popham and some interesting weather. The wind was very gusty and the landing was interesting. The instructor I took with me was impressed with the aeroplane and even said nice things about the pilot!
Providing the weather plays ball I am on track to get to La Ferte!

Having the guy who built it in the cockpit was useful too.
Yeah. Along the lines of – ‘ee built it an ‘ees ere, so it must be safe enough…

I thought that all test flights had to be carried out by an approved PFA/CAA test pilot? My boyfriend was the only one in his group able to fly the aeroplane before the permit arrived for this reason – or so I thought. But maybe it was more an insurance thing
If you can load it to full weight with one then you do. The paperwork states ‘essential personnel only’ and you cannot ballast a Rearwin to that extent so filling the seat and being able to comment first-hand on what is happening was useful. An extra pair of eyes was useful too as Stuart was not able to see as much out as I could. It was far from being a jolly, it was a lot of work keeping up the the note taking and checks. Having the guy who built it in the cockpit was useful too.
Been flying today and should be again tomorrow. There was a brief appearance of the Vermillionair at White Waltham earlier today.

No, the PFA/CAA insisted on a test pilot so Stuart Goldspink flew it. I have flown with him as a flight test observer to monitor stuff but could not fly solo until the paperwork was back and the test period finished.

Melv pottering along, Chez Vemillionplane…
*Twang*
“Hm, thought the rudder cable was a bit rushed. Though it could be the fabric on the port leading edge; I remember the stitching wasn’t too good come to think of it. Pilot’s set seems to have dropped a bit. Maybe Stuart din’t weigh as much as me?
Argh argh I’m going to die.
So this is a plummet then?”

Ok. Now I understand it 😉
I was a bit scared there for a moment. Thinking you knew the thing too well to fly it comfortably 😉 😀

I’m new to this thread………so bear with me for a moment.
Do I understand it correctly? Melv has not actually flown that contraption of his? 😮 Certainly makes you wonder doesn’t it? 😉 😀 😀

Just got back from Michael Turner’s exhibition (he’s a bit good y’know) and still haven’t seen the weather.
I shan’t be at LFAT on Saturday, too far just yet and besides I sort of have to go to France in a couple of weeks!
I might make it to White Waltham, all depends on how things go.
I still haven’t won the 57p yet.
