BRS-EWR Continental loads

Just found this interesting thread on airliners.net about loads on new BRS-EWR service.. http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/2222247. I loved the post from a Swedish guy about Bristol being the centre of the British Oil industry??!!

To pick on CO Promotion theme. It is not possible to drive around belfast without seeing a Continental posters every 4 or 5 minutes!

EDI-EWR had an increase in frequency before MAN went to double daily, so that might explain it. EDI won’t be higher next month, I can assure you.

David Kerr stated that the MAN 2x daily started on the 10th June, which was actually the same time, give or take a day as the 10x weekly started at EDI….

I’ve seen plenty of advertising for the route around the Bristol region. There have been lots of ads in local newspapers, boards, on the radio and on buses and taxis. They even had a team of people in Bristol City Centre giving away Continental Airlines balloons, pencils, rubbers etc.

It also recieved a lot of press from the local TV stations (BBC Points West and ITV West). The local people living in the villages surrounding the airport and esp. under the flightpath most certainly know about it as they made a huge fuss about it! (Claiming they would have 747’s flying over the house waking them up at all hours!!!!) stupid people!

It would be shame if the pulled out on this route so soon. I think it’s got potential!

Those were the basic figures I gave on the thread but have played aroound trying to work out approxiamte load factors for some of the routes: BRS = 69.3%, BHX 69.8% (anyone care to can that route as it’s carrying marginally fuller aircraft than BRS!?!?!?) and MAN is floating around the mid 50s%. The MAN double daily started June 10th but the total passengers carried did go up slightly (loads for June 2004 were around 64%/65%).

MAN’s figures are difficult to interpret as the CAA reports 34 passengers to Houston (where PK have no traffic rights on the MAN-IAH sector!), 0 passengers to Philadelphia and 8500 to San Francisco.

Surprised about the poor load factors. I live in Cardiff and round every corner on the main roads into the city you see some kind of billboard advertising the service. If thats the case closer to BRS then I don’t see how it could be a failure.

No offence to EDI, but I can’t see where this can possibly be right.

MAN is currently served daily by a CO B757 and a B767.

Shome mishtake, shurely?

Hence the ‘EEK!’. 😉 B762s hold a very similiar number to the B752s, so MAN should be around the BHX mark e.g 13-14k, I’d of thought?
They are the provisional figures so there could be inaccuracies, but I wouldn’t of thought they would be anything too dramatic…

I didn’t realise the EDI route carried more passengers than the MAN route aswell as the GLA route! 😮 The MAN route must be feeling the effects of competition from BA slightly?
